Perfectly imperfect . . .

"I've learned recently to love imperfection a lot because it shines such a big light on God's grace.
And if someone has grace for you that's when you feel their love the most and they see you for
who you are and they love you anyway."     -Lacey Mosley

With Kim's theme this week being {perfectly imperfect} it immediately brought to mind my treasure bowl of broken shells and reminded me that I've never shared why they're my favorites. And with this week being the celebration of Good Friday and Easter I thought this would be a good time to share that.

I've always been drawn to the shells that are broken and worn, perhaps not even realizing why. And then one day while beach combing I came across one that spoke to me in a thousand unspoken words. I'm not sure why it was this one as I've picked up and carried home with me more broken shells than I can say.

I wish you could hold this shell as it has such a wonderful smoothness to it and I've often wondered, how long it might take to smooth the rough and broken edges on its journey. But you know, what I love about these broken shells are the details that you can see on the inside that you wouldn't notice or know were there if it weren't broken. It could just be a beautiful color or texture or the secret chambers that are revealed like a window into its soul...if a shell were to have one.

And I think to myself, God the artist, He created each of us to be a masterpiece. . .full of our own beautiful colors and textures and yes, even our own secret chambers.

And even though many of those details that are revealed can be beautiful he knew there would be parts that were broken and that we would need mending, and because of His Grace and ultimate love, would send his Son to pay the price for our brokenness and to smooth the rough edges if we would let Him so that we could finish our journey perfectly imperfect.

Love, Kim

Great piece of art, great composition, Kim!
I'm addicted to look for and collect all types of shells and snail shells when strolling along a beach, too. In my case that's unually the sandy beach of the German island of Sylt, located at the most northern tip of the German North Sea coast.
Of course I took many photos of these shells as well, but your composition of common whelk shells is my favourite - maybe because I have been quite familiar with these kind of snail shells all over my life.
Enjoy a peaceful Easter feast with your loved ones...
...regards from Germany, Uwe.

Great message here, Kim. And I have a 'moon rock' shell on top of my hard drive, which sits on my desk, that is covered with all kinds of imperfections. I keep it within my site to remind me that nothing is perfect and I am enough.

This is, by far, my favorite thing that you have ever posted! The fact that the hidden is visible through tiny glimpses, and often the most beautiful part is on the inside, is something so intriguing. Reminds me that we are all filled with hidden chambers of glory and that pain is not only on the outside that needs to be mended. If we can only see the beauty that is beyond the surface, appreciate that twists and turns that make each of us unique, we might be more patient, more forgiving, more happy once we let go of the perfection that is unattainable. I would like to share this with my young daughter and hope she can appreciate the message. That would be a powerful lesson for a whole class, to give each on a special shell and share your thoughts on perfectly imperfect. Thank you for sharing this today! Blessings to you. Enjoy the day. Erin

A beautiful message here today, Kim. In fact, I have a 'moon rock' shell that sits on top of my main computer drive on my desk that is covered with imperfections. I keep it where I can see it to remind me that nothing is perfect and that I am enough.

So wonderful seeing beauty all around us Kim. I have a few precious stones I have picked up on my travels and they are so precious to me...

Beautiful treasure, photos and words! Love the notion of the cracks and imperfections allowing our inside colors to show through. And was particularly touched by the question of how long it must take to soften the rough edges of a broken shell...God's tender mercies over and over and over again. Thanks for this!
