Thursday's little things . . .

"Let your life lightly dance on the edges
of time like dew on the tip of a leaf."

- Rabindranath Tagore

Several posts ago I talked about finding things that shimmer beneath
the surface, and well, on a foggy morning you won't need to go far.

One morning the fog was so thick you could see the droplets floating
in the air. So I grabbed my camera and headed over to the park. But the sun
had come out and it wasn't long before the fog lifted, and it didn't leave
until it left everything covered in dew.

As I entered the park there were a handful or two of deer grazing on the
grass from all the rain, and the younger ones were prancing around
playing tag.

I couldn't even get close to the taller waist high grasses because the fields were so soggy from
all the rain, and I was quickly sinking in mud. I'm adding mud boots to my wish list. And trust me,
I tried about all angles to get to that field...I could see the dew sparkling like diamonds, but it just wasn't going to happen.

{Morning}

So I did the next best thing ...I laid down on the sidewalk to get a bugs eye view.

And then I was mesmerized by this tree and its shadow.

Spanish moss anyone? The trees in this park are covered by this moss, and it's quite the sight.

Oh, and I have to share these with you . . . I have always wanted to photograph some fire ants,
but getting close enough is always a problem. If they feel the slightest vibration they are coming out of the nest to investigate and protect it, so being near one in the grass is a really bad idea.

But we woke up one morning to find them building a nest at our back door stoop so I was able to lay down and watch them through my lens. Even though they pack a nasty sting they are fascinating to watch (yes, nerd alert!). Unfortunately, and even though I highly dislike chemicals, the bait we put on the nest is very localized. They take it back to the queen and when she dies, the mound dies.

Notice those pinchers, which they use to hold on to you while they sting you with their back end. And I just don't know how something as small as an 1/8" can pack so much pain!

Hope you have a great day, don't forget to notice the little things
Love, Kim

These are all so perfect. I can't decide if the tree with the sunburst or the dew in the grass is my favourite. Both are exceptional images

Loving your bird's eye view, not sure I could lie down to capture a shot
like the one of the dew sparkling on the grass because I'd never get up again! Fab shadow capture of the tree.

Gorgeous, Kim! I wish I had half the resolve you have to get up and greet the day with your camera. You are always richly rewarded.

Love the photos, Kim. Last summer my husband and I had gone out to toss the frisbee for Moose and I apparently disturbed a nest. I was standing in this luscious grass in my sandals and then all of the sudden it was YOWIE!!! Ran to the house brushing my legs - didn't know I could run so fast with my hands down at my ankles. lol!

The dew photos are awesome. We're going to get some rain - yay! So I'm going to try some shots this weekend that hopefully will look half as good as yours.

I know that feeling you refer with the field of dew: you see it and know in your heart it would make an AMAZING photo, but the elements are not in your favor and despite your best effort - it doesn't materialize. And then every ounce of A.D.D. kicks in and you become (almost as) mesmerized with trees, shadows, ants.

Great fun following along.

The dew and grass is so beautiful, but the tree with sunlight! Awesome!..Your morning discoveries are something to treasure... the quiet time is always the best part for me.

The bug's view - stunning! I love the angle and all those sparkles from the sunlight & dew (more technically bokeh, I suppose but "sparkles" sounds more fun. ;) ).

Fabulous water shots! I was stung last year twice! While shooting in a cemetery, now I look before I explore. We just started having them in our garden and we treat them with some natural stuff and so far they seem to either die or move on but have popped up a few other spots but they may still be coming from the neighbors, not sure which. But at least they are out of the garden for now. I'm curious about what you use.

Beautiful photos!

I've been really lazy with the camera, so far this year.

Have a great weekend. Hope your weather is going to be as good as ours.

Delightful post. Loving the deer, the sunlight/tree shot and even seeing those ants up close. We've had a huge problem with tiny black ants this past year so they are on my (least favorite) list right now.

Such amazing photos. I can just picture that fog and the sites you saw when it lifted. You described it perfectly my friend. I do hope you are enjoying your weekend.
