A Sunrise . . . . .

. . . is the opening of the day.

I don't think there is anything comparable to watching the sun rise. Until just about 4 years ago I had never watched a sunrise, certainly not over a large body of water. I find it a little humorous though that the thing that most frightened me about moving here is now where I find so much joy. I can't even imagine not being able to get up early, well maybe not the early part, and partake in the watching of something so incredible. It's such an amazingly powerful experience, something we take for granted everyday. But everyday as the world turns, and we can pin it down to an exact time, the sun will rise. It ascends over the horizon as if by magic and makes everything new again. Besides the obvious beauty of it, I think it also represents for me consistency in an inconsistent world. That no matter what is happening in my life, I can count on the sun to rise. And right now, I need that more than anything.

"The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man."

       ~Author Unknown

And every time I have watched the sunrise it has been with the same painter, the only thing that changes are His brushes and His palette.

"Two golden hours somewhere between sunrise and sunset.
Both are set with 60 diamond minutes.
No reward is offered.
They are gone forever."

- Horace Mann
I would love to watch one from a skyrise in the city, with a balcony of course so I could take pictures! So curiously I wonder have you ever watched the sun rise?

Hope you are all having a peaceful day.

Love, Kim

Your pictures are beautiful! I especially like the last one.

I love to watch the sunrise! I'm up early for work during the week and it's the time of year when I'm at work before the sun is up but soon I'll be catching it on the way to work and I'll love every second of it! I'm getting my daughter (2.5) excited about seeing the sunrise at the ocean in Maine in a few months when we visit.

I'd seen many sunsets but hadn't seen many sunrises until I moved here to Virginia. My husband gets up early for work so I would sit in our sun room with a cup of tea and watch the sun come up through the trees. It's magical.

I'm not going to even spend any energy picking a favourite here - they're all way too glorious, and that's no exaggeration. I really like the birds in each one - kind of adds to the peacefulness of it all.

Beautiful shots! I wish we lived closer to the ocean. I grew up near the water, so I miss it!

Wow, these are so gorgeous! I love that first quote. You certainly have captured the beauty of the moment.

I have seen the sun rise, but not in many years, and never with a camera in hand. It's definitely on my to do list!

Love the birds perching on the "posts" (I'm sure there is a different word for these, but it escapes me!) Beautiful!

I've never watched a sunrise over the water (I'm too tired to get up most times), but perhaps one day. Your sunrise inspires me to rethink this sleeping-in thing. :)

These are just gorgeous! I'm not much of a "morning" person so it would be a rarity for me to see a sunrise.

Love to see bird silhouettes and yours pare divine. Why yes, Miss Kim, our Port Angeles home faced East so we were woken every morning at sunrise since we had no window coverings! In the summer that was 4:30am at times! Our sunrises were over the Strait of Juan de Fuca - so the Pacific Ocean. I will miss those sunrises, though I'm looking forward to sleeping in a little later this summer
