. . . an afternoon drive and the walking around in 22 degree weather.
The day before we went to the pole vault camp we took a slight detour to the Chihuly glass exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum. I wasn't able to get up there during the summer and thankfully due to it's popularity they extended it to the end of the year...I had 5 days to spare. Of course, there wasn't much in the way of blooming flowers, but that's probably a good thing, it would have just distracted me. And as it was I had less than two hours before they closed or the sun went down, which ever came first. Well, really I got cheated out of 15 more minutes because my son decided to wear socks with flip flops? His feet were cold....ahh, teenagers!
I thought I would let you just stroll quietly through the exhibit . . .

I was very happy that I finally got to see this! It was beautiful and there was something at every turn, I just hope I made every turn and didn't miss something in our rushed state. I usually like to coast a bit slower.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed the weatherman is WRONG in his forecast of more rain this weekend....I had a date with a reenactment of the Battle of Galveston that I don't really want to miss.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Love, Kim

What a stunning exhibition, I've never seen anything like it. The colours and shapes are fantastic. Beautifully photographed Kim.
ReplyDeleteOH what beautiful glass this is.. great shots. Hope the rain stays away for you.
ReplyDeleteThese are spectacular...truly amazing glass creations! Thanks so much for sharing, Kim - I would love to see this in person! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the rain decides to stay away from you this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe use of glass in this arboretum is magnificent. We have a blown-glass company (Blenko) locally and they have bits and pieces of art beyond their sale pieces - but something like what you have photographed would be exceptional.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got some time there to capture these pictures.
It looks even better in you photos.
ReplyDeleteBut yes it was very cold. My blood must be thinning having lived in Texas for 20 years. Back to a donut rich diet to thicken it up.
Oh my goodness! I had no idea such places existed! These exhibits are beautiful! I'm really drawn to Blue Herons. Hope you get a nice sunny weekend. We've been cloudy and wet here in Georgia, too.
ReplyDeleteThe most beautiful photos I've seen of this exhibit, Kim! Takes your breath away. If you ever get to Tacoma/Seattle you'll have to include the glass museum and park in your visit... of course if that happens I'll want to see you too!!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's!
The boat with the floats...I could of taken a hundred pics of that scenery!!! SO gorgeous all of it...what a lucky girl to see it in person. Thanks for sharing!

I love these exhibits, I was just telling Terri when we were at the Botanical Gardens this week I thought it was the best exhibit that has been here. His exhibits always fit into the landscapes so well. I know you enjoyed this a lot from the look of the photos.

ReplyDeleteOh my - what a fabulous Chihuly collection. I have never seen it displayed like this - fantastic setting. The Naples Museum of Art has several of his chandeliers and a ceiling too - but I like the Dallas Arboretum collection best!

ReplyDeleteDefinitely worth the wait! We saw a similiar exhibit at the Columbus Botanical Gardens and it was breathtaking. Your images capture the beauty of the water and glass, each reflecting the other. He is such a creative force and the combination of his glass pieces within a natural environment is stunning.

ReplyDeleteI so enJOYed this, Kim!! I got to see Chihuly in Phoenix back in Spring 2009. It seemed all I did was take pictures. Of course at that point I hadn't a clue how to digitally fiddle with them, but I still have them and enJOY pulling them out and taking my time savouring them.
