Well, they just keep going to the dogs caterpillars, my plans that is.
It seems when you have this many there is a little more housekeeping to do, you know,
that food has to go somewhere!!
I've gotten so, so low on milkweed that there are tiny fist fights and head butts going on to see who can hog the rest.
No, seriously, they are like toddlers fighting over a toy.
In fact, I would have had this all finished yesterday, but no I had to run and see if I could get some more milkweed and much to my dismay, they have none, nada, zilcho! May not get any for 3 more weeks.
3 MoRe wEEks!!
Do you sense a little panic in those 3 words, you should. I am!
I still have 6 more babies that will be growing fast this next week, and all I can say to the pathetic
plants I'm left with is . . . grow baby grow!
I've been trying to edit all my monarch photos, running up and down the stairs checking on things and wouldn't ya know, I left the enclosure open....yep, two rogue caterpillars on the loose. Searched under chairs, under the table, watching where I was walking....looking at the dog to see if he looked guilty. But, in his defense I'm pretty sure he wouldn't eat a caterpillar? Nope, just the new leather coaster.....with the Texas star in the middle and everything that we got at the rodeo.
But finally I found it. I left a 3 tiered glass stand in the dining room (where they are) on the floor, and there he or she was climbing up. I'll tell ya, this is more work than I had bargained for, but OH so worth it. In fact yesterday, I had an almost catastrophe, but I'll share that story later. It had a happy ending!
So be patient with me, I promise I'm going to get 'er done!
In all reality it may be a week before I start the series.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Love, Kim

ReplyDeleteOh no! I wish we were close so I could help search for milkweed! I can sense your dismay after seeing those stripped plants on IG!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see what happens!
ReplyDeleteWith images like the one you posted today, I'd say it'll be worth the wait :)
ReplyDeleteYou're a butterfly garden machine!!
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking! Thanks for linking up to Loves on a Thursday!
ReplyDeleteLove this photo!!! Leaving the door open sounds like something I would do and naturally some sort of critter would be waiting for me when I thought about it. Visiting from the Little Things Hop
ReplyDeleteThis photo is totally amazing Kim. Can you order milweed online... google is your friend here perhaps. can't wait for this series.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the rest of the photos! This one is lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! You are raising Monarchs! We raise them every summer and I can't wait for them to start arriving here this year! We have fields of milkweed around us, but it isn't growing yet or else I'd pick some and mail it to you. :) Maybe check butterflyencounters.com or MonarchWatch.com. One (or both) of them may be able to help.
ReplyDeleteBTW, your photo is gorgeous!!!
I KNOW that panic feeling with the whole milkweed thing. Do you know that right before those babies J hang they eat a leaf an hr...I wish you were closer so I could help out.
ReplyDeleteKim, is it wrong that I'm smiling as I read about all your monarch stress? lol...it's very endearing to read of your love and care for these sweet little beings. They are in good hands! I really hope you're able to find some milkweed. What a beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited too ...
ReplyDeleteI lost a few of my caterpillars too, usually found them in the "J" shape hanging somewhere. When my kids lived here they told me it was hard to eat dinner with the sound of caterpillar droppings hitting the newspaper. I think they were exaggerating. (o: I wish I could send you our milkweed, we have so much of it, but of course ours won't be growing here until June. I can't wait to see your pictures.
ReplyDeleteEsta imagen es una obra de arte, tienes un estilo Ășnico!
ReplyDeleteJust so much mayhem! lol! This is such a gorgeous photo - thanks for the sneak peak.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo! Who knew raising butterflies would entail that much effort?!
ReplyDeleteHoping you find more milkweed for them.
What a beautiful capture! :)
ReplyDeleteI can sense your urgency my friend...you have me laughing! I will be back next week after my trip to Seattle.
ReplyDeleteCaterpillars are dropping from the trees, landing all over me at the park I frequent. Very scary. I don't know what you're doing, but it sounds like a fun experiment. Hope you get what you need soon!
ReplyDeleteAn absolutely gorgeous image, Kim!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving watching your caterpillars grow... and extremely interested in how you go about caring for them, etc! It sounds like hard work, but so worth it!
