A Photo-Heart Connection

This is the first of a monthly photo-heart connection over at The Kat Eye studio
where we can share that one photo we had the strongest connection to
within this last month. No rules of technicality, just emotion.
Kat explains a little of her process for choosing her photo here.

The photo I chose was actually taken the week before the new year when after Christmas we took a day
trip to San Antonio to see some of the missions. As always, the family goes on ahead while I linger with
with my camera, fully present in the moment and as they will tell you with no sense of time at all.
And that would be true!

I found myself lingering at this spot for a while, and at first without my camera to my eye. I was completely
drawn in to this spot, captivated by the light, wondering where it lead and what was just beyond these stairs? I felt a whisper of the past and a pull to the future and it was as if these stairs bridged the two.

The light in this image reminds me that I'm recognizing my own light, becoming more aware and less afraid of it. I know that may sound strange, but I have always had difficulty with this and my camera has been instrumental in helping me find that light - no pun intended! ; )   The gate reminds me that what can protect can also bind. And the stairs, well those stairs seem to connect it all together . . . solid but worn. They connect the past with the future allowing me a glimpse of how far I've come and the anticipation of where I am going. It's there, just beyond my reach . . . I see it!! And I no longer want to stand behind the gate.
Love, Kim
XO

  1. Kim - I love your openness. Funny how this happens, but yesterday I was looking at my Art Quilts magazine and there was a group that had a challenged called "The Space Between." This photo is your space between.
    Love ya

  6. Beautiful photo, Kim. I love your telling of what it means to you. I often find that the shot I am drawn to tells me something about myself that I maybe was not fully aware of. Pictures have a way of articulating some things that words just fail to do. Great post!

  10. Great photo. When I first saw it it made me think restriction, but when I looked again, I wondered what was being protected by the gate. There are so many ways to approach viewing a scene or photo, and many have to do with your mood or frame of mind at the time.Have a good end of the week!

  13. Love both your words and this photo for your heart-photo connection, really, really love the light in this shot. There is something magical about missions. I think it is because they really are the oldest buildings in our West and southwest culture, they hold a sense of time that you just don't get anywhere else.

  18. Kim - I want to go past the gate, too. I see stairs like that, gated off, and I wonder about all the feet that once climbed them. Were they light or heavy footed? Can't wait to see and read your next connections.

  22. And, while it might interesting to see what is at the top of the stairs, we don't want to get there too soon because there's also much enjoyment in the journey itself.

  30. Beautiful image...the light draws me in. Those worn stairs was great. I can see the past and present merging in this one image. Your analogy between the light on the stairs and the light within you is powerful.
