"We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails."
-Dolly Parton
Oh, I would like to adjust those sails alright, by taking them down and just drifting for a bit.
I've still just not quite adjusted to the schedule of school yet, and being gone three nights during the weekday's, doesn't help - although we do love our football! So I'm pretending that I'm on that sailboat, with its sails down, 'cause it doesn't look like they're coming back for me! ; )
I did manage to get to the sunrise last weekend and I remembered reading in one of my photography books
that you could get a moonrise like photo if you changed the white balance. So I took a few with it set to incandescent, and although I'm not so sure it looks like a moonrise, I do like the effect.

And a short visit to the beach . . . I just love watching the pelicans skim those waves!
I kept seeing more and more pelicans, unusually so, flying by me, and then realized that they were landing on the State Park beach. I don't think in all the times I have been that I have ever seen them in this spot. But my euphoria didn't last long, as I was spotted and right on cue they all took off together. With a wing span of 6-8 feet, I have no idea how they take off with out getting tangled in one another....especially since they were standing so close to each other.
But this cormorant didn't mind me too much, even sang me a little tune of Galveston, Oh Galveston.
And what's a day at the beach without a few friends. But apparently they don't like fudge poptarts . . .
Or they were just holding out for my Cheetos . . . oh do they ever like their Cheetos!
This week at Photo Art Friday Bonnie gave us a theme of movement. I overlayed two images and added two layers of her texture mauve threads. I think it surely works well with water and gives more movement to the piece.
And my submission to Flower Art Friday with two layers of Kim Klassen's texture take heart at hardlight.

Happy Friday to you as well, Kim! So glad you're coming out of your zombie stage. These are lovely pictures but I'm drooling over that last one. I've yet to use a texture successfully on hard light but you've inspired me to try, try again!
:-D
gorgeous photos - your work is wonderful!!
I am with you on the sail boat.... lets escape together.

These are all very beautiful!
Beautiful work!
I love your shots!
A day at the beach is so relaxing, isn't it?
I especially love it off season!
Have a wonderful weekend!
:-D
Love the pale lemon yellow of your sunrise shot and the peace and serenity of the drifting sailboat. And I think your faux-moonrise shot is really beautiful with that luscious blue shining over the water.
Really like how you processed the sunrise and the shot of the seagulls.
I am right with you on that sailboat...what a gorgeous image, so peaceful and calm. We all need that feeling in our lives. I know you are lovin' your football season eventho it can be hectic as those seagulls. Happy Friday!!
oh wow! I wanted to say that the second shot was my favorite but after I finished going through this post I've decided I can't pic only one... the are all fabulous!!!
Wonderful beach photos and words! I love the Cormorant singing ;) I love photographing sailboats but have never been on one...would love to spend the night on one...it would be awesome and soooo relaxing.
These are great - i can't wait for summer and the beach! My favourites are the 3rd and 4th because of their colour and strong tonal contrast. You might like to drop in on Mandarin Orange Monday #9 this week :)
Your photographs should be postcards for your local tourist bureau! Your moving edit is just gorgeous. You have such a great eye. Thank you for the inspiration and for sharing with Photo Art Friday, Kim!
Hi Kim ~ I popped in
from Patty's 1440. Love
all of your beautiful images!
I was at the Washington coast
a few weeks ago and also
marveled at the pelicans....
who ALSO flew away just as
I got close enough to get a
shot : ) Hope you have sailed
into a great weekend, already!

Wonderful post from start to finish.
The piece you did for PAF is fabulous and shows movement very well.
Your FAF entry is also as lovely as can be.
Your photos are simply gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing.
Gorgeous photos of the sea so beautiful..
Nice treatment of these shots, all showing movement...the sail boat is stunning with the yellow sky and ripples in the water ;)
Calling by from Flower Art Friday, what a lovely series of photos including the one for the meme.
Love the sail boat and pelicans!
Always beautiful photography!
Thanks so much for sharing with Foto Friday,
Lori
What beautiful photos! I hope your ocean visit helped soothe your spirit, even for a few moments. I know that looking at your photos sure did soothe mine... :)
Hope your imaginary 'drifting' time helps recalibrate your internal settings and make that adjustment to school schedule. As for the photos, nobody does ocean shots quite like you . . . I am a huge fan of your work. Especially love the "Moonrise" and "Cormorant" shots.
All are wonderful. I love the pelicans gliding over the waves. Perfect.
what a fabulous series!
i love how you captured the motion of the waves. your bird shots are wonderful.
wonderful images, all! i'm really being inspired tonight to start trying overlays and presets... what great results!
i've also enjoyed following you on instagram... great captures there, too.
thanks for linking up again at 1440!
