Gratitude . . .

"To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude
means to take nothing for granted,
but to always seek out and value
the kind that will stand behind the action.
Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course.
Everything originates in a will for the good,
which is directed at you.
Train yourself never to put off
the word or action for the expression of gratitude."

- Albert Schweitzer

Today, I'm in a debt of gratitude that my daughter had someone who could drive her to the ER yesterday. And for the kind man (nurse/doctor) that held her hand when I couldn't, as getting an IV is one of her worst nightmares. As a parent, one of my worst nightmares is not being able to be there when my kids need me. This is definitely one of those times when letting go is so very difficult. She is fine, needed some fluids as she was dehydrated and we're going to just chalk up the whole thing to sometimes weird things just happen.

On a sad note, this morning when I came upstairs to the computer I wasn't greeted with the normal chirps and tweets from my lovebird . . . she passed in the night . . . and it's awfully quiet up here.

Today is my posting day over at my collaborative blog Focusing on Life. Our monthly focus is on gratitude and I have a challenge for you with a twist. I would love for you to join us over there by clicking here.

And before we part, I just want to say that I treasure each one of you. I'm grateful for the crossing of our paths, even if it's only briefly. I treasure the friendships I have made through this community and for your continual support and your kind words.

I wish you all a beautiful day . . .

With gratitude,
Kim

Oh, yes - I completely understand. My son went through cancer while hundreds of miles away - one of the hardest things I have ever experienced. (He is fine now - keeping my fingers crossed that we get to the 5 year mark without a relapse) So grateful to his fiancée for being there during that time.

Your rose is simply stunning!

Your rose is just gorgeous!! We've experienced an ER visit and unable to be with our son, back in the day they didn't always let family be in attendance. The volunteer lady was so gentle and sweet, and said she would do just what we as parents would do, hold his hand. How sad about your bird passing in the night! Wishing you a fantastic week! Thank you so much for your visit!

Yes, indeed ... every mother's angst: not being there when our children need us. So glad Chloe is going to be okay. And sorry about your little bird. Sounds like you need a new companion in your studio.

so pretty with the waterdrops, looks like sugar sprinkled all over it to make it sparkle.

Dehydration can do such strange things - so happy that your daughter is OK. I must say those water droplets on that rose are spectacular!

Oh I know how much you wanted to be with your daughter when she needed you to hug her and tell her all would be alright, but part of that parenting thing is not always being there, as hard as that is. I'm sorry about your love bird, I am sure her sweet sounds will be sorely missed. And I too am grateful that our paths crossed and we have connected in many ways. Just a scrumptious picture of that rose!!

So glad your daughter is okay. Sad about your bird. I've lost a couple. It's so, tragic I guess is the word, to find something that was so full of life, suddenly devoid of it. Life truly is precious. I'm grateful for you, Kim, and what you share here on your blog. Bless you.

I hope your daughter is doing well. IVs can be a nightmare. I have a bruise from a failed try right now. The texture edit on your flower makes this a magnificent photo!

So sorry your daughter had to endure a scary experience without her mama. Glad it was nothing too serious, but does seem concerning. Also sad to for the loss of your bird. Bless its heart. And yours. Still, your post is full of energy and life...love the positivity here. :)

What a rough 24 hours you've endured. Those little let go steps get kind of big sometimes. And silence isn't always golden. I appreciate your openness.

Kim, I'm so glad your daughter is doing better...there's nothing worse as a parent than that hopeless feeling of not being by their side when they're sick. I'm very sorry about your bird...you've had a rough week and I hope things improve from here! Yes, gratitude is so key...sending you good thoughts! <3

So glad your daughter is doing much better. I can sympathize with you about that fear of not being there when they need us the most, but thankfully there were those who were able to stand in for you. So sorry to hear about your song bird. Very sad. Now I'm off to check out the link you shared. Blessings to you...

I'm glad someone was there for your daughter, I don't like IV's either. And I'm sorry about your bird too...I believe even these smallest of pets are a gift from God!
